In the context of the visit by Gabriel Boric, President of Chile, and his scheduled meeting with President Macron on Friday 21 July, Catherine Colonna, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, had a meeting today with Alberto Van Klaveren, Chile’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. They discussed the global challenges (climate and environment, war in Ukraine) and regional crises on which Chile and France hold similar views, and the highlights of the bilateral relationship.

Following their meeting, the ministers signed three texts strengthening bilateral cooperation between France and Chile:

  • an intergovernmental agreement in the field of cultural cooperation, aimed at bolstering cooperation in the cultural and creative industries, exchanging expertise and developing multilingualism;
  • a letter of intent on feminist foreign policy, providing for public diplomacy and exchanges of good practice in feminist diplomacy;
  • a declaration of intent on cooperation in the Antarctic, formalizing our bilateral dialogue, setting out a framework for tourism and our scientific exchanges, and providing for cooperation under the treaties on the sixth continent.

Ministers Colonna and Van Klaveren agreed to maintain dialogue on all the subjects of common interest to France and Chile.
