Guatemala – Presidential elections (29 August 2023)

France commends the smooth unfolding of Guatemala’s presidential elections. We congratulate Bernardo Arévalo and Karin Herrera, the president and vice president elect, following the second round of the elections held on August 20, whose official results were proclaimed on August 28.

France, along with its European partners, stood by Guatemala, sending an EU election observation mission to that country. We support President Alejandro Giammattei’s pledge to work with his successor to ensure an efficient, orderly, transparent transition process.
