Iraq – Attack in Erbil (16 January 2024)

France utterly condemns the attack carried out on Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan Region, which included the use of ballistic missiles, on the evening of 15 January, for which the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have claimed responsibility.

Such acts are flagrant, unacceptable, worrying violations of Iraq’s sovereignty and undermine its stability and security, and Kurdistan’s within it. They are helping to escalate regional tensions and must stop.

France extends its condolences to the victims and their families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

It assures Iraq’s federal authorities, and those of the Kurdistan Region, of its full solidarity.
