Georgia
France deeply regrets the adoption of the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence (May 28, 2024)

Like the European Union, France deeply regrets the Georgian parliament’s May 28th decision to adopt the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, despite its incompatibility with the values and principles underpinning the EU, which Georgia seeks to join.

Civil society and independent media play a vital role in democratic life. It is the Georgian authorities’ responsibility to preserve and strengthen an environment conducive to their work and safety.

Together with its European partners, France will continue to support democracy, the European way and Georgia’s sovereignty, to which the Georgian people have demonstrated their deep commitment.

Election of Emmanuelle Soubeyran as Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (May 28, 2024)

France applauds the election of Dr. Emmanuelle Soubeyran as Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) for the 2024-2029 term. She was elected to this position on May 28 at the World Assembly of Delegates, which was held in Paris, and extends her thanks to all the member countries and territories for their show of confidence.

Her candidacy reflected France’s commitment to the organization’s goal of promoting animal health and well-being. France, which worked to establish the WOAH, is one of its leading contributors and hosts the organization’s headquarters in Paris. It will continue to lobby for the WOAH’s recognition within the multilateral system and in support of an ambitious vision for its future.

Q&A

Does the Algerian draft resolution contain the elements that are needed to win French acceptance at the Security Council?

Given the severity of the situation in Gaza, we supported the Algerian request for an emergency Security Council meeting. We hope that the Security Council will adopt a resolution to respond to the humanitarian emergency, to make progress toward a ceasefire, and to give the UN a clear mandate in Gaza. We call for the release of the hostages.

President Vladimir Putin is taking about the serious consequences that would ensue from the presence of French troops in Ukraine. Is this acceptable?

I would refer you to President Macron’s press conference.
