On Wednesday 13 September 2017, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose Paris to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Los Angeles for 2028.
Let’s take a look back at the road to victory taken by Paris2024 and all its partners: a proud achievement for France and all those who worked on the bid, especially the French diplomatic network, and made Paris the obvious choice.
From 26 July to 11 August 2024, for the first time in a century, France is hosting the summer Olympic Games, followed by the Paralympic Games from 28 August to 8 September.

Almost 15,000 athletes, 9,000 accredited journalists and 1.5 million tourists from all over the world are exploring, working and competing at the most iconic and spectacular sites in Paris and the Île-de-France region, as well as 8 other cities in mainland and overseas France.
The Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on 26 July 2024 saw delegations sailing down the Seine, in the heart of Paris. The Opening Ceremony for the Paralympic Games will partly take place on the Champs-Élysées and Place de la Concorde.
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs worked to help prepare this major event, a unique opportunity to celebrate Olympic values, share this immense international festival of sport and showcase Paris, France and its overseas territories.
