Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot hosted his Bulgarian counterpart, Georg Georgiev, on Tuesday, June 3.

The Ministers commended the expansion of French-Bulgarian relations, including economic relations. They called for expanding cooperation on subjects of common interest likely to strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy, such as defense and civil nuclear energy. The upcoming signing of the updated Roadmap for the Strategic Partnership Agreement between France and Bulgaria will help fuel this positive momentum.

Looking ahead to the European Council on June 26 and 27, the Ministers discussed current European and international priorities. In light of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression, they reaffirmed their determined support for Ukraine. They emphasized the importance of the EU enlargement policy, particularly with regard to the Western Balkans, as well as the importance of the Black Sea region for European security.
