Laurence Boone, Minister of State for Europe, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will be in Berlin on August 25 and 26, following an initial visit on July 8.
Ms. Boone will meet with her German counterpart, Anna Lührmann, to discuss the major challenges that Europe is currently facing. In particular, she will stress the need for the EU to deal with the economic and energy-related consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. More broadly, they will talk about the EU’s future prospects, particularly the need to pursue the sovereignty agenda based on progress made during the French presidency of the EU Council, follow-up efforts related to the Conference on the Future of Europe, and the European Political Community project endorsed by the European Council on June 23 and 24. They will also prepare for upcoming bilateral meetings, including the Franco-German Council of Ministers and the 60th anniversary commemoration of the Elysée Treaty.
During her visit, the minister will speak to German think tanks at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), where she will address European issues.
