Political consultations between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic Mrs Alexandra Papadopoulou and Minister Delegate for Europe of the French Republic Mr Benjamin Haddad (4 April 2025)

The Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou and the French Minister Delegate for Europe Benjamin Haddad, held political consultations in Delphi today, in the framework of the bilateral strategic partnership between Greece and France.

During the meeting, they reaffirmed the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship and the broad convergence of views on current European and global challenges.

The discussion focused on bilateral relations, including on issues such as the implementation of the strategic partnership agreement, migration and civil protection. Minister Delegate Haddad and Deputy Minister Papadopoulou welcomed the implementation of the roadmap for cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs with the exchange of numerous bilateral visits, and expressed their commitment to intensifying contacts in this context.

The Deputy Minister and the Minister Delegate also discussed the main European dossiers, including European strategic autonomy, in particular in the field of defence, where they agreed on the need for a European preference and for ensuring the respect of the security and defence interests of all Member States, the EU-Mercosur Agreement, the support to Ukraine, the enlargement process and the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

Following up on the recent quadrilateral meeting which took place in Paris on 28 March with the participation of Cyprus and Lebanon, the two sides highlighted the importance of preserving and enhancing stability in EU’s Southern Neighbourhood.

Finally, the two Ministers emphasised the importance of the next United Nations Ocean Conference, to be held in Nice, in June, and Greece committed to joining efforts with the host country France for the success of this global event, including through the ratification of the “BBNJ” agreement.
