France regrets the failure of the draft resolution put forward by Brazil to the Security Council.

France voted in favour of the draft resolution, which was the one most likely to unite the Council around common principles and was supported by 12 countries. The text unequivocally condemned the terrorist attacks by Hamas against Israel, demanded the hostages’ release, urgently called for compliance by all with international humanitarian law, humanitarian pauses and the urgent opening of full, safe and unhindered humanitarian access for the United Nations, ICRC and humanitarian organizations to Gaza to enable basic necessities to be supplied to the civilian population.

The draft resolution also recalled the prospect of two States living side by side within secure, recognized borders and emphasized the importance of stepping up efforts to to prevent an escalation in the Middle East.

France thanks Brazil for its initiative and its coordinating role.

France will continue to make active efforts with its partners to address the humanitarian emergency and prevent a regional conflagration. It has already released €10 million of additional humanitarian aid for the population of Gaza.
