Israel/Palestinian Territories – France firmly condemns the shelling that hit a United Nations shelter at Khan Yunis (25 January 2024)

France condemns the shelling that hit a United Nations’ shelter in Khan Yunis yesterday, killing multiple people. United Nations sites and humanitarian workers, whose work is essential to the civilian population of Gaza, must absolutely be protected. France commends their courage and will continue to give them unwavering support.

The protection of civil is both a moral imperative and an international obligation. Israel must comply with international humanitarian law, which requires the clear principles of distinction, necessity, proportionality and precaution, at all times and in all places. We call for Israel to take the necessary measures to do so.

As stated by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, we must immediately work towards a lasting ceasefire, which is the only means to end the suffering of the civilian population of Gaza.
