Ukraine – France utterly condemns the latest Russian strikes (21 December 2023)
France utterly condemns last night’s drone strikes in Ukraine. For the past several weeks, Russia has engaged in a campaign of almost daily missile and drone strikes in order to terrorize the population and destroy energy infrastructure, in flagrant violation of international law.
Following the European Council meeting that agreed in principle to the opening of EU membership talks with Ukraine and reaffirmed Europe’s unwavering support for Kyiv in every area over the long term, France reiterates its tireless commitment to Ukraine’s resilience.
As Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna has repeatedly emphasized, France will continue to work closely with its partners to provide Ukraine with the aid it needs to regain its territorial integrity and ensure its legitimate defense. Russia must know that we remain staunchly determined to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.
France will also continue its support for the Ukrainian courts and the International Criminal Court to combat impunity for crimes committed by Russia. And France will continue its food aid to the countries most vulnerable to food insecurity as a result of the Russian aggression.
