Ukraine – France utterly condemns the Russian strikes in Chernihiv (19 August 2023)

France condemns in the strongest terms the Russian strikes in the centre of Chernihiv, which targeted a university and a theatre among other things, causing at least six deaths and 37 injuries, including of 11 children.

Under international law, intentionally targeting civilian objectives constitutes a war crime. This is another demonstration of Russia’s cowardice and cynicism.

France will maintain its support for Ukraine for as long as it takes and will continue backing the Ukrainian and international courts to ensure these crimes do not go unpunished. France will not stop denouncing Russia’s actions and condemning its continued war of aggression against Ukraine.
