Following the bloody attacks which recently occurred in Borno State, north-east Nigeria, and Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique, France was sad to learn of the deaths of several people, including a male humanitarian worker in Mozambique and a female employee of Doctors of the World in Nigeria. We extend our condolences to the bereaved.

France salutes the courage and dedication of all humanitarian and healthcare workers. It will continue to call for their protection to be fully respected, in accordance with international humanitarian law and the guarantee of safe, unhindered humanitarian access throughout the world.

France is determined to ensure respect for the imperative of protecting humanitarian and healthcare personnel. This is what lies behind the Call for Humanitarian Action, launched on 26 September 2019 by France and Germany as part of the Alliance for Multilateralism, which aims to mobilize the international community in order to more effectively implement international humanitarian law and humanitarian principles, and protect the humanitarian space.
