Security Council - Q&A from the press briefing (1 April 2021)

Q : Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is consulting with the permanent members of the UN Security Council on bringing together the leaders of those countries for a meeting. At what level are such discussions taking place? Does France still stand ready to take part in this meeting of the five permanent members of the Security Council?

A : France favors a meeting of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, which President Macron had proposed in 2019. This summit should give the permanent members an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the collective security system embodied by the UN. France is in close contact with all of its partners for that purpose.
