France congratulates Mr Qu Dongyu on his re-election, on Sunday 2 July, for a second term as Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

A founder member of the FAO, France is committed to the mandate of this specialized United Nations agency, which aims to eradicate hunger and malnutrition and promote the transition to sustainable, resilient food systems.

Against the background of a serious food crisis exacerbated by the consequences of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, France will continue to lend its support to the FAO and its Director-General to combat hunger and malnutrition in the world, strengthen the organization’s accountability mechanisms and its governance, and ensure effective cooperation with the United Nations system.
